10 Steps to Overcoming the Economic Crisis By: Lilyana Lovela We will never get what we want in life by focusing on what we do not have. We are not going to get ahead in this economy with a scarcity mentality. We are not going to recover by believing we do not have enough. As stunning as it may sound this economic crisis is a blessing. Why? Because it is making us appreciate what we do have and reevaluate what we want. Just as gratitude is the best attitude we are forced to look for fulfillment in things we already have and in those we love as opposed to the next trendy style of anything. Love never goes out of style and is 100% free! Not to mention it doesn’t make you fat and you can actually help you to loose weight and stay in shape. Time spent with those we love and doing activities we all enjoy like playing sports together out in the back yard, walking our favorite pooches, or our hearts skipping a beat at the sight of our true love all speed metabolism and release endorphins which lead to longer healthy lives. Watch heart disease and cholesterol levels drop over the next few months as well as prescriptions for mood altering drugs since everyone will be too busy and active to sit on their duffs and get depressed. So what is the prescription that will cure the economic crisis? Abundance! While we are all taking a good long hard look at what we do have it is important to realize everyone has an abundance of something in their lives. It doesn’t have to be of monetary value. In fact, you may find that by doing more of what it is that you normally do but by doing it for a lower price you will be able to reach and touch more lives by giving others what they need and in turn you may find that they have an abundance of something you need. This economic crisis is just that – a crisis, which is simply life letting you know that something doesn’t work anymore. When your car breaks down it’s a crisis, right? That’s because it doesn’t work anymore and that is a crisis. What does work is equilibrium and balance. We have been out of balance in many ways in this country for very long time. This is our chance to get it right, do what it is that we are really good at doing and give the overflow to those in need – not want but need.
10 Steps to overcoming the Economic Crisis 1. Be very grateful for all that you do have. Write down your blessings and be sure to include loved ones as well as just getting up in the morning – not everyone does! 2. Preserve what you have and get the most out of it. Get creative before you throw that thing in the trash. What else can it be used for that you might have to spend money for later? 3. Play the free entertainment game. Make a list of all the things you can do that don’t cost any money so that when you are tempted by boredom or just feeling an itch to spend some cash you have your list as your life and money saving stash. Check out volunteering for a worthy cause. You never know who you will meet or learn. Also, just exactly how many books do you have stashed away that you have meant to read over the years? If you anything like me you’ve got at least 6 months worth! Ok, so I read slowly. 4. Ladies have a Cheep Chicks night or day or afternoon. Invite all your friends over and save money by doing each others hair and nails. If one of your girlfriends knows how to do acrylic nails and does another hair you can easily save over $100 a month depending on where you live. In return you may share what you have in abundance with her. Also, who doesn’t have a pile of clothing needing mending? This could save big money. Get creative with patches and iron-ons to give old clothes a new look. Swap all that unused makeup and anything else. 5. Guys unite! Now is the time to do all that preventative house maintenance that if left undone will cost you big time later. 3 or 4 guys can breeze through that all that maintenance and Honey Do lists in no time making you King for the day or even week. Also, helping your buddies will keep you from the boredom of your same ol same ol not to mention it will get you out of the house. Maybe one of your buddies knows how to do the breaks on your car and you know how to flush the radiator. You can call yourselves the Oak Street pit crew or whatever buzz word gets you guys jazzed up to turn a wrench and save some cash on labor not to mention costly repairs that result from neglecting your automobile. However, you are going to want to at least spring for the Chilton’s Manual before diving under the hood. 6. Referrals make the merry go around! Offer clients a discount for referrals. Become a networking Guru. Collect cards from all your friends and family and refer to those who you hold dear! 7. Tell your boss you will work 4 extra hours for 2 hours pay. This will help your business and really show your boss you are chipping in to the cause. This is what I call paying it 50% forward. You still get something out of it in the now and the other 50% is paid forward. Great karma! 8. Share the love. Adopt a pet from a shelter. For a very small cost these pets pay for themselves many times over. Rather than going to the mall you take your pooch to the park, meet and greet other pet owners, and get some exercise. You save on entertainment, gym memberships, social clubs, and by improved health you save on doctor bills and missed work. 9. Plant some seeds. Growing a garden gets you outside in nature and best of all free food! Well almost free. For pennies you can have the freshest organic food all in your back yard or condo balcony. Best of all you may share your abundance with hungry friends and family or maybe even someone who just looks hungry but maybe not able to ask. 10. Keep your eyes open for others needs - Supply and Demand. Many times you will either find something to be grateful for or that you may be able to share your abundance with them. While it is important to be grateful for what we have very often it is what we do not have that makes us all the more grateful. Some of these include addiction and mental illnesses that can be masked as other behaviors. Your abundant act of mercy, insight, and care can save a life. You may find this act to even lead you to a career path of helping others and service possibly saving your life as well. To learn more about this author click here.
